DNAngel 1-26 (end)

Niwa Daisuke from DNAngel

Niwa Daisuke is your average teenager, until his fourteenth birthday. He tries to declare his love to the girl of his dreams, but fails. Suddenly, whenever he thinks about this girl he turns into the legendary phantom thief known as Dark Mousy. Daisuke’s mother, very much aware of this, makes him turn into Dark and steal valuable works of art for a purpose unkown to Daisuke. As the story unfolds, he learns why, and about his classmate who seems to have the same ability. Niwa Daisuke, a 14 year old boy who spills his love to Harada Risa. When rejected, his DNA changes and is mixed with the ancient phantom thief Dark. As his life and Dark’s intertwine, he is forced to steal the artwork of the Hikari. As time passes, mysteries are uncovered of Dark’s past, the ancient battle, and the heart of Daisuke. [ Summary from Anime News Network ]

The above sums the anime up fairly well. Personally, I thought it was an interesting and highly entertaining anime, lots of laughs, nice “pretty” looking guys like Dark and Krad and some pretty fun and exciting story lines. My personal rating, I’d give 8/10, reviewers on ANN also seemed to have given DNAngel some very high and favourable ratings. While overall I really loved DNAngel, the beginning (I suppose like many series) around 1-5 episodes were somewhat boring and repetitive, hence why it took me a few days to watch the first half of the 26 Episode series. However, once it got pass the whole “Dark steals a painting each episode and Daisuke’s romantic dillema around Harada Risa” it got really interesting. It began to involve more characters in detail in particular Risa’s twin sister Riku who is almost Risa’s exact opposite in terms of character and personality. I guess I have a soft spot for non-girly characters since she was my favourite character.

After the first 1/3 of the series or so, it began exploring other story lines and the romantic comedy/drama side of things were the most fun to watch. lol… I just find meshing some romance into a series make it even better and more interesting to watch. The second half was indeed more interesting and intense, where secrets are revealed and things come to a head. The final 2-3 episodes continues from one to another, like many otehr animes. The ending without giving to much away, was I guess a good and fitting ending, quite dramatic and emotional. The characters and music/soundtrack are probably the best parts of the anime. While the seiyuu (voice overs) also did a really good job in terms of presenting the characters’ personality.

Overall: 7.5/10
